Yesterday enhanced her commercial appeal with a first class win in  Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Le Pine Funerals Stakes (registered name: Twilight Glow Stakes1400m) at Bet Fair Park (Sandown).

Yesterday
Despite being caught wide for the entire trip, Yesterday had cover as Murphy's Cash went forward from a wide gate to find the lead with Starfish and Pachanga close up.  After racing midfield Yesterday started to work into the race nicely in the straight and after taking over inside the 300m she drew away to win stylishly away from Okaylah (Flying Spur - Cool Chick) and Melpomene (Elusive Quality - Bulla Borghese) three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.

Yesterday is a three-year-old daughter of Red Ransom's and she had finished third behind Northern Meteor in the Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick on October 18 and most recently when third behind Exalted Keetah in the Cadbury Roses Stakes at Flemington on November 8.

Looking a picture of health, Yesterday, improved her overall record to two wins and three thirds from five starts for earnings of $107,860.

Trainer Peter Snowden predicted better things were in store for the Darley owned filly next autumn.

"She’s a high-class filly and only lightly raced,” Snowden told TVN's Bruce Clark.

“We’ll look for something better for her in the autumn.

“Despite her pedigree, a mile would not be beyond her as she is such a lovely relaxed filly.

“She’s got black type win now and we can take her back to Sydney and go for bigger three-year-old fillies races.”

Winning rider Kerrin McEvoy also believes the filly has scope for improvement.

“She’s going to go a bit further in her career, she’s a lovely filly,” said McEvoy.

Purchased by Woodlands Stud at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale where they paid $275,000 it take her home from the Stratheden Stud draft. The price was no doubt influenced by the fact she was the tenth foal of the stakes-winning Sir Tristram mare Donna Cara

Just four of the six that have raced out of Donna Cara have reached the winners circle including the Listed winner Donna Dior (Marscay) who also finished second in the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes at Canberra.   Donna Dior is now the dam of the Group I placegetter, Galileo's Daughter (by Galileo).

Donna Cara is a half-sister to the Group 2 Silver Slipper winner Maizcay (by Marscay), the South African Group 3 winner Mzilikazi (by Marscay) and the Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner, Fitting (by Marscay), who in turn is the dam of the full-brothers the Group I Golden Slipper winner Catbird (Danehill) and the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes victor, Danbird.

Yesterday becomes the 87th stakes-winner for Vinery Stud’s international stud success Red Ransom.   The stud recently announced that the days of shuttling for 21yo son of Roberto are over.  He will remain in Australia at the conclusion of the current breeding season.

Considering he made his name sprinting on the dirt, Red Ransom has been an awfully effective sire of turf runners and we received another reminder of that fact when Duporth confirmed his standing as one of Australia’s best young-gun with a game victory in the Group 2 Golden Rose at Rosehill.

Trained at Randwick by Anthony Cummings for Peter Moran and he told TVN that Duporth would be the best three-year-old of the spring after he won the rough-house million dollar event.

Now that’s a big claim.

The Golden Rose is the richest race in New South Wales during the spring with the three-year-olds racing over 1400 metres and has been upgraded to black type status quickly after it's inception in 2003.

Duporth was ridden by, Hugh Bowman, who told TVN on dismounting that he's the best three-year-old he had ridden since Exceed And Excel.

The race was a messy affair, and the tight finish, could indicated that there is not a huge difference in the talent, however, in saying this Cummings claims must be respected as he consistently repeats that the three-year-old oozes quality.

In a rousing finish Duporth had a short half-head margin over the filly, Stripper (Danehill Dancer - Miss Charmer by Zabeel), with Desuetude (Strategic - Martella by Unbridled's Song) another long neck away in third, after a luckless run in transit.

Duporth did suffer in the horrid scrimmage at the top of the straight and he was able to overcome the problem to grab his second career and stakes win.

Cummings told TVN's Richard Calendar, "He's a marvellous animal."
"He (Duporth) may go to a race like the Spring Stakes at Newcastle and then the George Main at weight-for-age before the Caulfield Guineas and maybe the Cox Plate."

Duporth is out of the Success Express mare Staging the dam of Vinery's young stallion, Excites (by Danewin), winner of the Group I AJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and runner-up in the Group I Caulfield Guineas.

Staging was a brilliant race-mare with 10 wins on her resume including the Group 2 AJC Surround Stakes, Light Fingers Stakes and Emancipation Stakes.

Duporth is Red Ransom’s 24th Australian-sired stakes winner and his 86th overall. Red Ransom is a son of the English Derby winner, Roberto, out of a mare by U.S. Champion Damascus. He showed surprising speed an precocity winning both of his starts at two, setting a new track record for five furlongs at Saratoga on his debut.

From relatively inexpensive mares, Red Ransom sired ten stakes in his first crop of 69 foals, and has never looked back.

He’s a world-class stallion producing stakes winners all over the world and is consistently regarded as one of the best turf sires with 733 individual winners from 997 starters that’s a strike rate of more than 53%. He has 10 Group One winners to his credit and again stands at Vinery Stud in the Hunter Valley where his fee has been listed as $66,000 (inc gst).

September 1st, 2008

It was Golden Rose day at Rosehill on Saturday and the talented Duporth took out the Group Two feature at only his fifth start.

While his trainer Anthony Cummings told TVN that the colt would be the best three-year-old of the spring after he won the rough-house million dollar event.

The Golden Rose is the richest race in New South Wales during the spring with the three-year-olds racing over 1400 metres and has been upgraded to black type status quickly after it's inception in 2003.

Duporth did suffer in the horrid scrimmage at the top of the straight and he was able to overcome the problem to grab his second career and stakes win.

Cummings told TVN's Richard Calendar, "He's a marvellous animal."

"I've never won a million-dollar race and I'm thrilled," he said.

"He (Duporth) may go to a race like the Spring Stakes at Newcastle and then the George Main at weight-for-age before the Caulfield Guineas and maybe the Cox Plate."

Staging was a brilliant race-mare with 10 wins on her resume including the Group 2 AJC Surround Stakes, Light Fingers Stakes and Emancipation Stakes.

Due to popular demand Red Ransom has returned to Australia this spring and will only cover a limited book of mares at Vinery Stud at a fee of $66,000 (inc gst).

August 11th, 2008

Red Ransom has started off the 2008-09 season in the same fashion as he completed his last season with another stakes winner, when his son Duporth took out the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trained by Anthony Cummings, for Peter Moran, the good looking brown colt won his maiden in the best possible fashion and in doing so he dented the reputation of the race favourite Anatomica.

Cummings has always had a high opinion of Duporth who had two starts as a juvenile for a close-up fourth in the STC Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) and a sound run in the Group I AJC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m).

Black Minx, the winner of five of her six starts, jumped well but it was the last start maiden winner, Whitefriars (Arena - Alsatia by Marauding) who got away best and set a solid gallop.  Whitefriars got into his huge stride well and rounding the home turn it appeared that he just might cause an upset.  However, with 100m to run he tired and Duporth who had the run of the race under Hugh Bowman sprinted home hard near the rail and won the feature by three-quarters-of-a-length.

Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer - Show of Force by Luskin Star), did his best work late to grab the valuable runners-up cheque and stakes placing while Whitefriars held on for a tiring third - just a head away.

Cummings told TVN's Richard Calendar, "He has the potential to be the best three-year-old this season,"

"As an immature two-year-old he showed himself to be close to horses like Von Costa De Hero and All American.

"With Sebring not here this spring, those horses will want to be as good as the wraps on them because our horse has improved."

Cummings has no such doubts with Duporth and he will be aim him at the Group I Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne.

July 27th, 2008

Red Ransom has enjoyed a good season with his two year-olds and he added another winner to his tally when the Gai Waterhouse trained filly Maybe I saluted at Canterbury on Saturday.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, Maybe I came with a strong late burst to take the Sky Chase Handicap (1200m) for fillies by half a length, despite racing greenly in the very heavy conditions.

Maybe I is raced by John and Mariliyn Baxter of Ruane Stud, she had been purchased for them by bloodstock agent Keiran Moore for $140,000 at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Bred and offered for sale by Corumbene Stud, Maybe I is from the Danehill mare Flittery, whose dam Flitter a winner of nine races including the Group One Coolmore Classic and Doomben 10,000.

Raced throughout her career by John Baxter’s late father Arthur, Flitter was sold at the Inglis run Macquarie Stud Dispersal in 1997 for $360,000 and the first foal she produced for her new owner’s Corumbene Stud was Flittery, the dam of Maybe I.

Maybe I is the sixth juvenile winner this season for Red Ransom, with three of them being smart stakes-winners All American, Portillo and Romneya.

Red Ransom returns to Vinery Stud this spring at a fee of $66,000 (inc gst).

March 30th, 2008

Darley's northern hemisphere based Red Ransom has underlined his loss to Australian breeders when his juvenile colt All American showed he was right on track for next month's Golden Slipper at Rosehill with a dominant win in the $100,000 Group Three Skyline Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Ridden by Brad Rawiller, All American, settled at the rear of the seven strong field and given plenty of time to find his rhythm by Rawiller.  Keeping him out wide without any of the other colts to give him traffic problems All American rounded the home turn out wide without running away from the rail which can happen when having the first run clockwise.  When the brown colt had straightened and balanced up Rawiller asked him to stride forward.  Finishing off the race well and took the valuable group victory by a head from Over the Wicket (Over - Golf Circuit by Groucho) with Dubai to Sydney (Dubai Destination - Sydney's Quest by Quest for Fame), giving Darley stallions the trifecta in the Group three event.

All American is a very nice colt and in his four career runs to date he shown that he was above average by winning his first two career starts at the tough Moonee Valley circuit.  He then progressed on to the Group I Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield where finished a runner-up to Reaan (by Hussonet).

Trained at Flemington by David Hayes the colt is turning into a wonderful purchase for his group of owners who paid $220,000 for him at last year's Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast, when he was knocked down to Hayes Bloodstock Manager, Mark Pilkington.

All American will come ahead alot from his first Sydney outing as he heads towards his ultimate goal of the Golden Slipper, a race that should suit him as often the speed is on from the jump and the winner has been coming from back in the field in recent years, his racing pattern.

All American is out of the Strawberry Road mare Milva a half-sister to the Group I Santa Anita Hcp and Malibu Stakes winner, Rock Hard Ten (by Kris S.).  Although Milva is American she hails from a European mare Tersa (by Mr Prospector) a winner of the Deauville Group I Prix Morny Stakes.

Leading South African trainer Charles Laird, who has announced he's relocating to Australia to open a Flemington stable, is another person that will be happy with the black type win as he purchased All American's half sister by Encosta de Lago for $490,000 from the Magic Millions Yearling sale on Easter Monday.

December 30th, 2007

A hot day in Melbourne at Moonee Valley on Saturday one of the coolest things on the course was the performance of All American in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m).

Trained at Flemington by David Hayes the juvenile was having his second start and after a torrid run he proved to good to claim the stakes event and in doing so he gave his sire, Red Ransom, his 77th stakes victor, his 18th in the Southern hemisphere.

Gary Fennessy, who is Hayes' right-hand man in Melbourne, told TVN, "He's one of our best colts in the stable and he'll step up to the group races in the autumn."

All American, ridden by Brad Rawiller, jumped from the outside barrier (eight) and settled at the rear of the small field as his stable mate Joyful Warrior (Hawk Wing) and Lodore Falls (Redoute's Choice) took the field along at a solid tempo.   The leaders backed off the speed at the 700m and Rawiller went forward on the big striding brown colt, just has he did that the first starter Hybrid improved up inside him and he found himself five wide.  At this point it was a line of five on across the track until the corner.

Once Rawiller had All American balanced in the straight they drew away to win impressively from debutant Hybrid (Royal Academy - Lady Circles by Ascot Knight) with Confounded (Catbird - Bemused by Rory's Jester) getting home best of the rest in third a length-and-a-quarter further away.

The two length winning margin of All American underlines what a good effort the colt put in at only his second start.  Rawiller used the camber at Moonee Valley to his advantage, building momentum, allowing the colt to stamp his authority on the stakes event.

Fennessy told TVN, "It's amazing the improvement he's (All American) shown over the last two months,"

"When he came in, I thought he'd be in for a month and back out again but he just keeps stepping up.

"He was a big, rangy, lanky thing but he's just kept stepping up and now he's a Blue Diamond or Golden Slipper type of horse."

Fennessy said he was delighted to see the horse finish the race off so well after racing wide for the last half of the race.

"He did a great job - against reasonable two-year-olds. He got pushed five-wide but it was like trackwork the way he finished off when he got serious in the home straight."

Fennessy said All American's stablemate Joyful Warrior, who started the equal favourite, went too hard early when attacked for the lead by the Lee Freedman-trained Lodore Falls.

"He just did too much work early but he'll be better for the run," he said. Joyful Warrior was a $110,000 Magic Millions buy.

All American was purchased by the Hayes stable's bloodstock expert Mark Pilkington at the Magic Millions Premier Sales in January, for $220,000.

Fennessy said it was likely the horse would be aimed at the $1.5 million Magic Millions race for two-year-olds at the Gold Coast in late March after an assault on the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield earlier in the month.

Rawiller said he felt he was in some trouble on the point of the home turn and was impressed with All Americans' finishing effort. "He's a pretty green horse - it was a very good effort and he was very strong at the finish."

Rawiller continued telling TVN, "The best part of the race was the way he pulled up after the race. There's a lot of improvement in him."

A $220,000 Magic Millions yearling, All American  is from the American mare Milva (by Strawberry Road), a winner of two minor races in the states and a half-sister to Rock Hard Ten (by Kris) the winner of two grade one events the Santa Anita Handicap and Malibu Stakes and runner-up in the Grade I Pimlico Preakness Stakes.    Milva is out of the Group I Deauville Prix Morny and Group 3 Lonchamp Prix du Bois winner, Tersa (by Mr. Prospector) and she descends from the stakes winning mare Peacefully (by Jacinto) who in turn is the dam of the Grade I Kentucky Derby hero, Gato Del Sol (by Cougar).

Red Ransom stands at Vinery Stud for a fee of $49,500.00 (inc gst).

July 15th, 2007

Last weekend in New Zealand, Red Ransom's daughter, Martini Red took out the Listed Northland Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Whangarei on Saturday.

Martini Red arrived as a foal at foot at Trelawney Stud in 2004 with her dam Pernod (by Centaine), who was owned and bred by the highly successful stud.   Pernod won eight races, including the Group 1 MRC Invitation Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) during her 19-start career amassing more than $600,000 in earnings.

Martini Red displayed much of her dam's talent and speed with her daring catch-me-if-you-can tactics that saw her prevail by a length from Vanny Fair (Van Nistelrooy - French Flute by Jugah) with Align to Infinity (Align - Olufsen by Sir Tristram) a further half-length margin away in third place.

Martini Red is owned by Craig Coghlan, Warren Huntly, Mrs Faith Taylor and her trainer Ross Elliot who also trained the runner-up Vanny Fair, giving him the quinella in the Listed feature.

July 3rd, 2007

Red Ransom colt ROC DE CAMBES a southern hemisphere two-year-old, overcame a six month age defecit against his rivals to win the Listed Radio Nikkei (1800m) at Fukushima by 1 and 1/2 lengths over the weekend. In doing so he stretched his unbeaten record to three straight.

The victory is a timely boost for Australia as Inglis will be sending it's representative Satomi Oka to attend the Select Foal Sale next week to outline to potential investors and existing clients the benefits of attending Inglis Sales in Australia.

Purchased by Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm from the draft of the Oaks Stud, ROC DE CAMBES was an afterthought for Mr Yoshida when he was underbidder on one of the Easter sale toppers a few lots earlier.

ROC DE CAMBES was purchased at the Inglis Easter sale in 2006 for $130,000 and he's trained by Noriyuki Hori who also trains Kinshasa No Kiseki, another Australian bred stakes winner in Japan.

April 29th, 2007

In Queensland on Saturday the Golden Slipper-winning trainer Bruce Brown produced Point Made to claim the Listed Peter Gallagher Stakes (2112m) at Eagle Farm.

Brown thanked Melbourne trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith for transferring the potential Brisbane Cup performer to him after the win.  He told Tony Meany "I was originally pre-training the horse for Brian but when he went back down to Melbourne he never seemed to handle the left-handed way of racing," Brown said.

"So Brian recommended he come back up and he seems to go a lot better this way."

Point Made (ex Miss Minden by Bellotto)  was given a perfect run throughout the Gallagher Stakes before scoring a half-length win over Palace Lover (Palace Music - 'Its Love by Daybreak Lover).  Ready When You Are (More Than Ready - Lily Antoinette by Zadkine) was third one-and-a-quarter-lengths away.

The stakes win by Point Made gives Red Ransom his 71st stakes success with earnings of more than $70million world-wide.

April  4th, 2007

Group One winner Red Dazzler is to stand the coming season at Eureka Stud in Queensland.  The winner of the 2006 Toorak Hcp (1600m), Red Dazzler started 19 times for four wins and five seconds and prizemoney of $808,000.
Red Dazzler was trained throughout his career by Mick Price at Caulfield.

As notable for his looks as for his ability, Red Dazzler backed up his Toorka Hcp win with a second placing behind Racing To Win in last year's Group 1 George Main Stakes and was also runner up to Fields Of Omagh in the G1 Futurity Stakes.  Eureka previously stood one of Queensland's best stallions Semipalatinsk until his death in January last year.  The Stud was also home to Group 2 winner Skalato.

Red Dazzler's first season service fee will be $16,500 including GST

October 30th, 2006

WS Cox Plate day was a big one for ace jockey Craig Williams not only did he win the weight-for-age championship on the 'senior citizen', Fields of Omagh, he also rode the winners of the first two races on the card.

In the opening race Williams rode Cinq Rouge who scored a tenacious win in the Listed Arrow Training Service Stakes (registered name: St Albans Stakes) over a 1000m.

Williams bounced Cinq Rouge (ex Quintet by Bletchingly) out of barrier six and found the lead comfortable from her stablemate Superfly.  Royal Asscher, ridden by Dan Nikolic sat right behind them, Nikolic moved up around the turn and got to the front but Cinq Rouge fought on strongly and got back to win by a short-half-head from Royal Asscher (Stravinsky - Diamond Cashel by Sir Tristram).

Superfly (Rock of Gibraltar - Allez France by Hennessy), who became unbalanced on the turn, battled on well for third in front of Camarilla (Elusive Quality - Camarena by Danehill) .

The first four home were along way ahead of the rest.

October 15th, 2006

It was Caulfield Guineas day on Saturday and on the under card was the Group I Toorak Handicap, where local trainer Mick Price turned out Red Dazzler in sensational fashion to give him a home track victory at the elite level.

Ridden by Jim Cassidy, Red Dazzler jumped away from barrier three allowing Cassidy to give him the run of the race behind Reewaya, who took the field along at a very slow tempo.

Cassidy had Red Dazzler relaxed and racing sweetly - something many of his rivals were not doing.  Once Rewaaya had rounded the home turn, Cassidy was in the perfect position.  Waiting for a gap to come, which didn't happen until inside the final 350m, Cassidy kicked Red Dazzler through and they went on to score by a long neck over Rewaaya (Singspiel - Nasmah by At Talaq).  Niconero (Danzero  - Nicola Lass by Scenic) sprinted well for third a length further away.

The win confirmed Red Dazzler's great form as two weeks earlier he had split the subsequent Group I Epsom Handicap quinella when he finished only a length behind Racing to Win in the Group I George Main Stakes (1600m) with Desert War a neck astern of him in third on the day, when ridden for the first time by Jim Cassidy.

Price told Bruce Clark of TVN that the win of Red Dazzler just might give him two runners in the Cox Plate now.

Price then went on to say, "I'll had a chat with the owners and we decided that if he (Red Dazzler) won you have to have a crack at the Cox Plate in two weeks."

Price was just as over the moon with the win, describing it as "fantastic" on TVN.

He then went on to say that he was hopeful Cassidy would partner Red Dazzler again at the Valley.

"It was a top ride and I would love him to ride the horse in the Cox Plate," Price said.

"Red Dazzler is a four-year-old bull (stallion) and now he's got his Group One it puts a bit of value on him."

Red Dazzler has matured and developed into a wonderful racehorse.  He has raced against the best of company in all his campaign's and during his classic year he took out the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley so he has a proven record at the track.

In winning his fourth race, Red Dazzler (ex Vain Hill by Danehill), has given his owner Melvin Foo a nice return on his investment, as he has now earned more than $750,000. Foo purchased Red Dazzler from the 2004 William Inglis Easter yearling sale for $100,000.

Overall it was a great twenty four hours for Red Ransom, on Friday night his juvenile daughter Cinq Rouge began her career in fine style with a win on debut at Moonee Valley.

Cinq Rouge chased the early leader, Royal Asscher (Stravinsky - Diamond Cashel), hard down the straight to grab the win by a length-and-a-quarter.  They cleared away from the rest with six lengths back to Try This (Dangerous Shapely) in third.

Mark Pilkington paid $120,000 for Cinq Rouge at this years Magic Millions yearling sale.  Her dam Quintet (by Bletchingly) has a weanling colt on her by Street Cry.

April 30th, 2006

The feature racing in Australia was in South Australia at the Morphettville course on Saturday.  And as if on cue, David Hayes, opened the Group I day with a juvenile winner in the Listed SA Stakes with Cinque on Schweppes Oaks program.

Cinque (ex Lucky Lucaya by Chief's Crown) was only having her third start and chalked up her second success by three-quarters-of-a-length from Magic of Music (Iglesia - Early Song by Precocious).  Red Glamour (Real Jester - Glitz and Glamour by Dauberval) also trained by Hayes ran home for third another 1-1/4 lengths away.

March 26th, 2006

Electrocutionist showed tremendous guts and determination to battle on strongly in the straight to win the 2006 Dubai World Cup, the world's richest race, on Saturday night, March 25.

It was the fifth time that Godolphin has been successful in the 10-furlong championship on dirt at Nad Al Sheba in the 11 runnings' of the contest.

The task was always going to be difficult from stall one in the 11-strong field for the US$6-million showpiece and when Electrocutionist did not get away as quickly as some others it became even trickier.

Frankie Dettori rode the five-year-old horse along on the inside to maintain their position and they raced in fifth.

This was still the same approaching the straight when they came one off the rail and then, after going for home, Godolphin's main retained rider managed to switch Electrocutionist to the outside.

Giving all, the horse made inexorable progress, passing horses, until he tackled the two leaders Brass Hat and Wilko inside the final furlong, going on about 75 yards out and winning by a length and a half at the line in a time of 2m 1.32s.

The huge crowd was ecstatic and Frankie Dettori did his second flying dismount of the evening after Sheikh Mohammed had led in the winner.

Sheikh Mohammed commented: "I am very proud and happy to win this race because this is our hometown before our people.

"Everybody has come here, enjoyed themselves and had competition with their horses.

"Electrocutionist is a very good athletic horse but I didn't know whether he would run on the sand. He was a grass horse but we took our chance.

"He was training here very well and he won his race before on the sand so we thought he had a good chance. He is a special horse."

The winning jockey declared: "The American horses are so quick at the start and I thought I had it all to do.

"I wanted to be just behind the leaders but I found myself further back than I wanted to be. We were also getting a bit of kickback but not as much as I thought we would.

"Yutaka (Take) was travelling better on Kane Heliki than I was. I had the chance to get out at the five eighths pole (two and a half furlongs out) and took it and that won me the race.

"He had it all to do as he lost some precious energy and ground when I switched him around the field. He is really a grass horse and did not change his lead until 50 yards from the line.

"I wasn't travelling well enough to go past them early on. He had to battle in the straight and I knew he would - it wasn't easy but he has a big heart. We killed off the statistic which said a horse drawn one could not win.

"I was really worried on Wednesday when we drew the one stall and I saw the boss on Thursday night who said unfortunately we cannot change it, just go out and be positive.

"We have a great team, Saeed gives me great confidence and when it comes off it is great. It is my 12th year in Dubai and Godolphin's 13th and for us to win here, for the country, the public and the team means a lot. Every year the pressure gets greater and I am still quite numb.

"It was a tough race but in the end it was a great performance and victory. I did not know that I was really going to win until 20 yards from the line because I could not shake off Brass Hat until then."

Simon Crisford, the Godolphin racing manager, said: "Electrocutionist is so tough and so honest. The number one draw was always going to be difficult and we were knocked back on Wednesday when we pulled that stall.

"Frankie has ridden this racecourse many times and we all know that it is not easy for European horses coming out of trap one on dirt. We experienced it with High-Rise and Halling and horses like that - it is extremely difficult.

"We went into this race, knowing against the battle hardened Americans that it was going to be much tougher than some thought.

"If you told me this morning that we would have one winner I would have accepted that, to have two is unbelievable. Electrocutionist is the present and Discreet Cat is the future.

"Frankie is in great form and that will boost his confidence before the turf season.

"Early on it looked like Electrocutionist was struggling and off the bridle. Frankie was having to ask him questions too early in the race for my liking.

"I have seen the horse do that before, when he won the Juddmonte International last year, as he was a fair bit back that day.

"He was really getting into top gear in the final furlong - he stays a mile and a half and that may prove to be his best trip.

"He always seems to have a bit left in the tank - every time you ask him there is something extra to give. "He is a very talented horse, a bit like Swain. He will take the Swain route. He will go back to Europe for races like the Coronation Cup, King George, Juddmonte International and Irish Champion Stakes and if he is doing well in the autumn we will look at the Breeders' Cup Classic back on dirt.

"Electrocutionist has never been good at switching his leads and we were a little concerned at that. That's maybe why it took him a bit of time to get on his right lead and go forward.

"Going into the race we did not know whether he would win, come second, third or fourth. But we would have been disappointed if he hadn't come in the first four."

Saeed bin Suroor, the Godolphin trainer, remarked: "I am very happy - the horse always tries his best and Frankie gave him a very good ride.

"It was a great result and at the end of the day the best horse won."

February 3rd 2006

On Thursday night at Canterbury, classy mare Crimson Reign produced another outstanding performance to claim the listed Canterbury Classic (registered name: Satellite Stakes (1100m)) for her young trainer, Jason McLachlan.

With the speed on from the jump set by Flying Pegasus and Our Liam with race favourite, Written Tycoon also in a forward position out wide.  Crimson Reign travelled behind them nice and settled for Darren Beadman with plenty of cover.

On entering the straight, Our Liam was the first beaten as Written Tycoon moved up beside him and Flying Pegasus.  Drawing level and just getting his head in front of Flying Pegasus, Crimson Reign, got a nice run through and raced up in ominous fashion.  Taking control with 100m to go she forged clear for a classy-length win over Written Tycoon.  Flying Pegasus was a further three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.

Crimson Reign's main target this campaign is the Group I Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide in March.

Crimson Reign has carried her form through from last spring where she defeated Aqua D’Amore (Danehill) in a listed race at Caulfield in October.
