Baramul Stud

December 4, 2019Kristen Manning

It has been another fruitful year for Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud with the likes of outstanding filly Libertini keeping the stud’s name in lights.

The stud, led by manager Paul Thompson, continues to produce high class gallopers which is why their Magic Millions draft is always keenly anticipated.

What appeals to you most about the MM sales and race series?

How progressive the company is with both the sales and races. They have created such a diverse sales series with such an array of horses catering for every market from early coming two-year-olds to stayers.

How would you sum up your farm and the service you offer?

Baramul is a purely private farm focusing on horse well-being and breeding future champions.

Libertini

How many mares did you breed with in 2019, who is the best known?

240. The Group One mare Aloha, whose daughter Libertini is the best three-year-old filly in the country, is at the top of the tree. Royal Descent (ATC Oaks-Gr.1, 2400m) had always been a favourite and she is back in Australia with a beautiful Savabeel filly, and she has tested in foal to I Am Invincible.

How would you summarise your draft this year?

It is a very exciting draft, a sound bunch of progressive horses who I am sure will keep improving from sales day and beyond.

In one sentence how would you sum up social media?

How can something be so wonderful and so detrimental at the same time?

If you could add a single option to your car, what would you add?

Auto-clean.

If your job gave you a surprise three day paid break to rest and recuperate, what would you do with those three days?

I would spend it with my wife and children.

If animals could talk, which animal would be the most annoying?

Cats!

The Danehill line is heavily featured in the Baramul draft, little wonder considering its ongoing success. Of particular interest will be six by Snitzel including a half-sister to the Group Three winner Mclaren, a grandson of Savannah Success and the progeny of dual Group winners Palacio de Cristal and No Evidence Needed.

There are also two youngsters by Redoute’s Choice including and a son of  Oakleigh Plate-Gr.1, 1000m winner Shamal Wind. Also worth a look are the progeny of Not A Single Doubt including a half-brother to the US stakes winner Broadway Missile.

Fastnet Rock’s late son Hinchinbrook has two in the draft including half-brother to the multiple stakes winners Rebel King and Rebelson. And there are three by Hinchinbrook’s son Press Statements including a descendant of UK star Pebbles.

Also from the Danehill line is an All Too Hard colt from the family of Group One sprinter Jetball.

The late Northern Meteor also makes his mark via a Zoustar half-sister to the stakes placed Star Genius and American Geninus and two Shooting To Win colts including a son of speedy Group Two winner Magically.

More Than Ready is represented by a 3/4 brother to Todman Stakes-Gr.2, 1200m winner Kiss And Make Up and by two Sebring fillies including a daughter of dual stakes winner Kakakakatie.

The Invincible Spirit line is faring well and bound to prove popular is an In Am Invincible son of dual stakes winner Jersey Lily and two of the progeny of newcomer Shalaa; a colt from the “Tennessee” family and a filly from the Palatious family.

Medaglia d’Oro and his son Vancouver are both represented, the former by a half-sister to Listed winner Centre Pivot, a grandson of Group One mare Cheeky Choice and a half-brother to the dual Group One winner Delago Deluxe and the latter by a daughter of Savannah Success and a grandson of Isolda.

So You Think has been been in great form and has two lovely fillies; a sister to the Rosehill Guineas-Gr.1, 2000m winner D’Argento and a half-sister to the Coolmore Classic-Gr.1, 1500m winner Aloha, dam of Libertini.

Two American Pharaoh fillies; a daughter of the Group Three winner winner Moonflute and a granddaughter of the Group One mare Cheeky Choice, will also be keenly inspected as will three of the progeny of Star Turn including a half-sister to the Group Three placed Hoylonny.

The Sunday Silence line enjoyed spring carnival success and there are eight Real Impacts  including a colt out of a half-sister to Polar Success and a half-sister to the Listed winner Zauberin. Fellow Deep Impact stallion Mikki Isles has three including a descendant of NZ Filly
