It was only a few years ago that Bhima Thoroughbreds offered a filly by I Am Invincible at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, with the resulting yearling being Group One Myer Classic winner I Am A Star. Now the winner of 10 races and over $1.5 million, her resume boasts nine wins at Group level.
Bhima also sold tough dual Group Two winner Sircconi at the Classic Sale, along with Group One mare Heavens Above, Group winners Super One, Kaepernick and Scissor Kick, and emerging Hong Kong star Big Party.
That impressive graduate record and the quality mix of yearlings heading to the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale has given Mike Fleming confidence there are potential stars among this Bhima collection too.
The Bhima draft includes first season progeny of Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Flying Artie, Group Two Schillaci Stakes winner Star Turn, and Group One Newbury Lockinge Stakes winner Belardo. Also represented in the draft are progeny of the Champion Sire Sebring and up and coming stallions Rubick and Deep Field.
“We have a much smaller draft heading to the Inglis Classic Sale this year, but the quality is second to none. We have all sectors of the market covered with a range of stallions to suit all budgets said Mike Fleming.
“As with every sale again this year, all of our horses will be represented on the Kick Sales Platform, which contains x-ray reports, owner and breeder information of our yearlings, as well as in depth pedigree analysis and horse history of every yearling.”
The first lot to be offered by Bhima is lot 61, a flashy colt by second season sire Scissor Kick out of the unraced New Approach mare, Classic Approach.
“Scissor Kick has had limited runners to date, but all the reports from trainers are that they will do the job. There have been a few impressive trial winners including a filly that we sold at this sale last year, who recently won a trial by five lengths at Wyong said Fleming.
“They are very athletic horses and this colt certainly fits that mould. He looks to be a two-year old type and has thrived throughout the preparation.”
The second horse to be offered by Bhima is lot 93, a filly by Champion Sire and Golden Slipper winner Sebring. This filly is closely related to dual Group Two winner, Bring Me The Maid.
“Sebring was a huge loss to the industry as he produced great racehorses. This filly will appeal to a lot of buyers as she is a neat type with a great walk. Being closely related to Bring Me The Maid certainly widens her appeal as not only a race horse but also residual breeding value,” commented Fleming.
Bhima will also offer a filly by up and coming stallion Rubick, who has already sired Everest winner Yes Yes Yes in his first crop. This filly is out of the dual stakes winning Fuji Kiseki mare, Hairy, who has already had three foals to race for three winners.
“The filly out of Hairy is a lovely scopey filly, with an eye catching walk. She’s a no fuss filly and just goes about things her own way. Being by Rubick, she is an appealing prospect as he is producing some outstanding racehorses including Everest winner Yes Yes Yes,” Fleming stated.
Lot 198 is a colt by proven sire All Too Hard. He is out of the three time winning Shamoline Warrior mare, Interstellar, who is a half sister to Group One New Zealand Oaks winner Savaria. All Too Hard is the sire of the exciting Group Three Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Alligator Blood.
“This colt’s temperament is just exceptional. Nothing ever phases him. He has stepped up to the mark every time we have asked him to. All Too Hard is a consistent sire of winners and is a stallion that throws plenty of bone into his stock.”
The first crop of Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Flying Artie are set to hit the sale ring this season. Bhima is excited to be offering an exceptional filly out of Flying Spur mare, Micucci.
“Flying Artie was an exceptional race horse who was outstanding in his victory in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes.” “This filly has thrived since arriving at Bhima off the back of a weanling sale. She was quite immature looking as a young horse but has blossomed throughout the preparation. She is a real favourite with the staff, and it will be interesting to see how she is received at the sale.”
Lot 330 is a filly from the first crop of Group Two San Domenico Stakes winner and Vinery first season sire, Star Turn. This filly is out of Mortal Sin, whose oldest foal is a two year old gelding by Headwater, trained by Team Hawkes, named Stormwater. This filly is from the same family as Group Two winner’s Chase The Rainbow and Ms Funovits.
“She is an outstanding forward filly, who looks like a natural two year old type. She has an exceptional temperament and has breezed through the preparation without turning a hair,” commented Fleming.
The first crop of multiple Group One winner Belardo, a son of Lope de Vega, hit the sales ring in the southern hemisphere in 2020. Standing at Haunui Farm in New Zealand, Belardo will have limited numbers at Australian yearling sales with most of them being sold in New Zealand.
Bhima Thoroughbreds will offer a daughter of Belardo, she is out of Purple Vein, by Fastnet Rock, who is doing an exceptional job as a broodmare sire. Purple Vein is a half sister to the Group Three winning Sookie, who has produced the Group One Spring Champion Stakes winner in 2019 in Shadow Hero. Purple Vein has had two foals to race for two winners, including the exciting three year old Dirty Deeds trained by Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra
at Flemington. He was an impressive debut winner in August 2019.
“This filly is an outstanding powerful correct filly. Being from the first crop of Belardo, it will be interesting to see how the market receive her. However, on type she is a filly that is a must inspect,” stated Fleming.
Lot 469 is a filly by up and coming Newgate sire, Deep Field, whose first crop of now three-year olds have hit the ground running. Top horses include Group Two Roman Consul Stakes winner Cosmic Force, as well as stakes winner Dig Deep, and stakes performers Hawker Hurricane, Big Parade and Spaceboy.
This filly is out of the dual winning Mossman mare, Sirius Spy who is a full sister to Group Two winner Traitor. The family also includes Group One Queensland Derby winner Brambles and Group Three winner Lincoln Blue.
“This filly is by exciting new sire Deep Field and should be very well received by the market. She has an extremely good temperament and looks like she’ll be an early type, as have the rest of the progeny of Deep Field,” stated Fleming.
Bhima is looking forward to presenting their draft at the upcoming 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where buyers will be able to find all of their yearlings on the Kick Sales Platform to enhance a transparent selling process.
With the sale having provided many successful racehorses for Bhima over the past few years, the success looks to continue into 2020 with their next line up of quality bloodstock.
